NFPA 70E Training: Low & High Voltage

We offer certified high voltage and low voltage NFPA 70E training on site at your facility. This classroom format training is one day each for high voltage and low voltage and meets the requirements set forth by the standard. Each program is complete with proficiency testing.

One-Line Diagram: Design & Maintenance

A one-line diagram is the basis for any electrical upgrades, maintenance, or analysis. Not only that, but an up-to-date diagram is required by NFPA-70E. It is to be updated at a minimum of every 5 years, or following any significant changes to the system.

Available fault current is calculated at different points in the electrical system. The results are then compared to the ratings of the devices that will be exposed to those fault currents. If a device is underrated, there’s no guarantee that it will be able to successfully clear that fault.

Protective Device Coordination

Protective Device Coordination

A coordination study is done to predict which protective device will clear faults throughout the system. Ideally only the device nearest a fault will open, leaving the remainder of the system undisturbed and preserving continuity of service. Coordination is generally a compromise between the mutually desirable, but somewhat opposing, goals of maximum selectivity and maximum safety.

Incident Energy Analysis

The information gleaned from the one-line diagram, short circuit study, and coordination study is used to develop a model of the electrical system. Once the model is created and verified, faults are simulated adhering to the IEEE 1584 standard. Results are used to identify areas for possible safety improvements, populate arc flash labels, and to make PPE determinations. The requirement for this study, or an acceptable alternative, is spelled out in the NFPA 70E standard.
